The Bioresorbable Screw project describes a new type of treatment in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMF). With a completely new bioresorbable alloy that is on a par with the properties of medical titanium, it is possible to make treatments in the field of maxillofacial surgery more efficient and more comfortable for the patient.
The aim of Bioresorbable Screw is to replace the currently established titanium products that are necessary for osteosynthesis in the maxillofacial region with products made of bioresorbable and biocompatible magnesium in order to avoid a second surgical procedure and allow the wound to heal in an ideal manner. For example, the formation of a cavity due to the removal of the titanium screw, which carries the risk of a new fracture, can be avoided as the bone build-up is accompanied by the removal of the magnesium screw. The magnesium alloy is replaced by bone substances in a natural way.
