Eightpins

Mechanical Engineering/Mechatronics 2016

Eightpins has developed a new concept for telescopic seat posts for mountain bikes.

Telescopic seatposts have become firmly established on the mountain bike market and are often installed as an original equipment product. They enable quick height adjustment of the saddle from the handlebars. A low saddle offers more freedom of movement and the rider can stand centrally on the bike and position the center of gravity correctly when riding downhill. The saddle can be quickly raised again for riding uphill.

The three Eightpins founders, passionate mountain bikers, were not satisfied with the available solutions and decided to develop their own product. The previous systems were based on a mounting standard in which the seatpost tube is clamped into the frame tube. This results in disadvantages such as high weight, insufficient adjustment options, a structurally weak design and heavy wear.
