Startup Insight with Stefan Matheis from 4Metrics

With their product Realmetrics, 4 Metrics want to make the world a better place. This involves the sustainable refurbishment of existing buildings. With the Realmetrics product, they can quickly show what refurbishment potential and what CO2 savings potential there is.

The topic of sustainability is important to Stefan. He says "with software and digitalization you can make processes even more efficient and with your software you can make an important impact on sustainability"

One of our focal points is sustainability. We integrate sustainability aspects into all supported business models (impact business modeling). Through targeted workshops, such as the Sustainability Biz Train. For Stefan, the question is "What is sustainability" and "How do I make it measurable?", e.g. how do I determine the carbon footprint of one working hour? We provide 4 Metrics with a concept so that they know where to start.

4Metrics has made sustainability its goal. What does that mean? You find out what a developer hour/developer day costs you. In the future, they would like to include an item in the offer that declares exactly what CO2 exchange this product/developer hour requires.

What have been the biggest challenges in your startup life so far?

"The biggest challenge was certainly finding a team. In my experience, it's better to listen to your gut feeling. Because it's not easy to find people who are flexible enough"

What tips can you give the start-up talents of tomorrow?

"Don't force too much. On social media, it's easy to believe that you have to get an extremely high rating tomorrow, be extremely fast, have all your customers, sales and partners immediately. That's a nice thought and these exceptions do exist. But I have cut myself off from social media. Because we have to have realistic expectations. Of course, you also have to think big, but that doesn't mean I want a turnover of 10 million in the first 12 months."

"Don't save money in the wrong place. Once you get to the point where you want clients, a good lawyer, a good notary and a good tax consultant are worth their weight in gold. Many mistakes can be made that you don't have to make. tech2b offers great deals and contacts to partners."

Is there a final message from both of you to the community out there?

"Always stick to the idea! But always have a plan B. We are now pursuing a strategy where we are not exclusively dependent on one product. That way, we are fundamentally more relaxed and can sleep better."
