Flowfactory: Linz-based startup offers convertible mini-balcony for windows

Pieces of furniture with different functions that enable optimal use of living space: This is what the Linz-based start-up Flowfactory wants to impress with. Founded this year, the young company has already developed its first product, the "Balcosy". It is a small wooden table that customers can convert into a mini balcony in the window by folding it. The idea is to enable people to sit comfortably and safely on the windowsill and thus have a kind of miniature terrace despite the limited space in their home.

Idea comes from the lockdown
Flowfactory founder Florian Holzmayer had the idea for Balcosy during the 2020 coronavirus lockdown. He wanted to sit on the windowsill in his balcony-less apartment in Linz and find a comfortable and safe solution. His piece of furniture, which is certified under building regulations, can be converted from a table to a balcony in just a few seconds. "Simply fold it up and enjoy the sun," promises the start-up of the Salzburg native, who studied wood construction at the HTL Hallein.

The Balcosy is to be mounted as a small table in front of the window. Even radiators should not be an obstacle. Customers can turn the table over and fold it onto their windowsill to create a mini-balcony. A fold-out railing is designed to prevent hazards when sitting down.
